After Rahul Tewatia powered Rajasthan Royals to their second consecutive victory in IPL 2020, Sanju Samson revealed that Tewatia was actually signed by the franchise for his leg-spin bowling, but ahead of the start of the tournament, there was a six-hitting competition organized in the Rajasthan Royals camp.

The competition was to determine the power-hitting abilities of the players and every batsman was given 6 balls to showcase his hitting prowess. According to Sanju Samson, Tewatia hit 4 or 5 sixes in 6 balls he faced in that competition which led the team management to believe that he was a decent enough hitter to be sent up the order in a game situation.

Tewatia scored a match-winning half-century for the Royals against Kings XI Punjab last night and deposited the ball into the stands for a total of 7 times on his way to the half-century. The left-hander didn’t hit a single four during his innings.

It was one of the strangest innings in the history of the IPL as Tewatia was badly struggling for most parts of the innings. He was batting on just 8 runs off 19 balls at one stage and it seemed as if he would finish as the root cause of Rajasthan’s potential defeat, but as it turned out at the end, he finished as the hero of Rajasthan’s victory.

Samson himself also scored a half-century for the Royals along with Tewatia and was declared the man of the match for his innings of 85. It was Samson who kept the Royals in the game at the time Tewatia was struggling to put the bat on the ball.

It was the second consecutive time in the competition that Samson won the man of the match award. He was the man of the match in Rajasthan’s opening game against CSK as well where he had scored 74 runs off just 32 balls.
