"Sometimes Run-Out Happens" - Sarfaraz Khan On His Heartbreaking Run-Out In Test Debut

Sarfaraz Khan, who had been eagerly anticipated for his Test debut after impressive performances in domestic cricket with an average of nearly 70, finally made his debut in Rajkot. He quickly made his mark with the bat, notching up 62 runs off just 66 balls while batting at number six.

However, the debut innings, which started impressively, concluded in disappointment as he was unfortunately run out, marking one of the most entertaining debuts by an Indian cricketer on a bittersweet note.

Ravindra Jadeja, batting at 99, played the ball to mid-on and initially called for a run before retracting. Sarfaraz, eager for Jadeja to reach his century and in sync with the team’s sentiments, committed to the run, only realizing too late that Jadeja had changed his mind. Mark Wood swiftly fielded the ball, delivering a fierce direct hit on the stumps at the non-striker’s end.

Sarfaraz Khan On His Heartbreaking Run-Out

Despite the run-out, Sarfaraz chose to focus on the positives rather than dwelling on the mix-up. He cherished the emotional reactions of his father and wife, the thrill of receiving the cap from Anil Kumble, facing his first ball, scoring his first run, and notably, achieving a half-century on debut.

Speaking after after stumps as India ended the day on 326/5 in Rajkot, Sarfaraz said:

“It is a part of the game. Miscommunication happens in cricket. Sometimes run-out happens, sometimes you get the runs. I spoke to Jadeja at lunch time and requested him to talk to me while playing. I like talking while playing. It was my first time. I told him that when I go out to bat, keep talking to me while playing. He kept talking and supported me a lot while I was batting,”

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja also expressed his regret on the unfortunate run-out, he took to his social media and penned a heartfelt note, apologizing to the young batter. Check out his story:
