Shahrukh Khan

Known for his lower-order power-hitting in the domestic circuit, Shahrukh Khan made his first big, impactful contribution to the PBKS in IPL 2023 when he smashed 22 runs in only 9 balls against the GT, on Thursday in Mohali.

This cameo from Shahrukh Khan, who had come in to bat at number 7, helped PBKS’ total to 153/8, which seems only par at the mid-innings break and might be even 15 short with the dew settling in when GT come out to bat.

Khan’s blistering, quickfire knock included two monstrous sixes, one to Alzarri Joseph and another to Mohammed Shami.

In fact, that one to Joseph was on the very first ball that Khan faced. Coming to bat on the last ball of the 17th over, Shahrukh spectacularly pulled Joseph for a gigantic six over deep mid-wicket.

Wanting to use the long square boundaries and hurry up PBKS Batsmen for pace, Joseph banged the ball in short on 147 KPH. Unafraid of pulling across the line to a fast delivery, Khan played a stunning pull shot, middling it well, and sent the ball way behind the mid-wicket boundary, into the dancing PBKS supporters at the PCA stadium.

Meanwhile, no Punjab batsman could get going today and none of them reached a fifty. Matt Short was Punjab’s top-scorer with 36 runs while 4 other batters reached the 20s. For GT, Mohit Sharma took 2 wickets while the other 4 bowlers took one wicket each.
