Indian captain Rohit Sharma is back with a bang. After struggling to score runs for a long time, the India captain’s return to form came at a perfect time with the World Cup 2023 just 22 days away.
Gearing up for the biggest cricketing festival, Rohit Sharma created another batting record as he became the 6th Indian and the 15th overall to complete 10,000 runs in the format. Rohit is the second-fastest batter ever to climb Mount 10K, leaving behind legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni and even his coach Rahul Dravid.
Virat Kohli still leads the list, having reached his 10000th ODI run in just 205 innings. Rohit, playing his 241st ODI innings, reached the landmark with a six. Besides completing the 10,000 run mark, Rohit Sharma also became the highest six-hitter in Asia Cup history surpassing Shahid Afridi in the process.
Rohit achieved this feat during the ongoing game against Sri Lanka. Rohit walked out to open the innings with Shubman Gill and the duo, for the second game in a row, got off to a fabulous start, racing the total past fifty inside 10 overs. Rohit and Gill added 80 runs before Dunith Wellalage castled the young opener for 19 runs off 25 balls.
