Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer made the most of the first opportunity given to him in the longest format of the game as he smashed a stunning century on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test match between India and New Zealand at Green Park in Kanpur.
Shreyas Iyer has impressed one and all with his determination and hard work, however, it wasn’t easy for him as his world was thrown upside down as he suffered a devastating shoulder injury earlier this year. But the cricketer made a solid comeback and today not just he played his first Test match but also went to smash his maiden century to make the day even more memorable.
Shreyas Iyer, who ended day 1 on 75* runs, carried on with his brilliance with the bat on Friday as well. Though his batting partner Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for his overnight score of 50, but Iyer carried on and smashed some stunning shots. He took little to no time in reaching his maiden century and he did with a series of some stunning boundaries.
On Thursday, Iyer received his maiden cap in Tests ahead of his debut against New Zealand in the first of the 2-match Test series from the legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar.
Later, after the match, Shreyas Iyer took to his social media and expressed his emotions after receiving his Test cap from the legend and scoring his maiden century on his Test debut. He stated how he will always carry these days for the rest of his life. Further, he thanked his fans for their love and amazing support. He wrote:
“From receiving my Test cap from Sunil Gavaskar Sir to going out there and representing my country in red ball cricket, I’ll carry these two days with me for the rest of my life. Thank you everyone for your wishes, love and amazing support”
