Young Indian opener, Shubman Gill, who led the batting line-up of defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT), has had a sensational time in the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Gill the biggest highlight of the ongoing IPL 2023. He gave outstanding performances throughout the tournament and impressed the cricketing world with his composed temperament, remarkable batting skills, and astute running between the wickets.
Shubman Gill Failed To Break Virat Kohli’s Record
While Gill had a blockbuster run in the season, he failed to break batting superstar Virat Kohli‘s 7-year-old IPL record which he created in the year 2016.
Playing for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli amassed 973 runs in 16 games that he played. Kohli is the first and only player to breach the 900-run mark in an IPL season. Kohli had a dream run in the IPL 2016, smashing 4 centuries in the season.
Shubman Gill was expected to join Kohli at the 900-run mark. However, the GT opener departed after scoring 39 runs off 20 balls and finished the season with 890 runs.
Given his solid form, Gill was expected to even break the record of Kohli but he finished the season with 890 runs at an average of 59.33. His tally in the ongoing season included 3 centuries and 4 half-centuries in the season.
