Shubman Gill stole the show with his blistering knock against SunRisers Hyderabad on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He played a sensational knock and registered his maiden IPL century to help his team register a win against SRH. With this win, Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in the ongoing IPL 2023.
Shubman Gill Registered His Maiden IPL Century
Gill, who opened the innings for his team, took the SRH bowlers to cleaners from the word go. He put up a stellar show with the bat and displayed a wide range of shots. Gill raced through the powerplay, smashing 36 off just 16 balls which included an array of fours against Fazalhaq Farooqi.
He played a blistering knock of 101 runs off 58 balls. His knock was laced with 13 fours and 1 stunning six.
Meanwhile, after his knock, the young sensation talked about his inspiration and revealed that it is none other than the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar, and the modern-day great Virat Kohli. He said:
“When I was 12-13 years old I followed Virat Kohli bhai the most, he has been my idol since I started understanding cricket. I learned a lot from Virat bhai. His batting & passion & commitment motivates me”
He added:
“Sachin Tendulkar & Virat Kohli are my Idols & Inspirations,”
Gill also revealed how he had challenged Abhishek that he would hit a six against his left-arm spin. He said:
“I made my IPL debut against SRH and got my first hundred against them, so life has come a full circle. Hopefully many more to come. It’s all about the bowlers and situation and I don’t dwell much on my last innings. It is important to focus on the situation in front. The six off Abhishek Sharma was the most pleasing thing for me. I told him that if you bowl to me I’m gonna hit you for a six.”
Gill has made his idol proud with his flawless innings. He once again highlighted his versatility as an all-format player, much like Kohli. Impressed with his stellar knock, Kohli took to his social media and hailed Gill for his sensational performance. He wrote:
