Shubman Gill Opens Up On Playing First World Cup For India

Young Indian batter Shubman Gill has expressed his delight in playing his first-ever World Cup tournament for the senior Indian team. Gill has rocked the cricketing world with his incredible performances ever since he made his debut for the Indian cricket team. Riding on his performances, Gill has been able to cement his place in India’s playing XI and has developed a reputation as the most reliable player in all three formats.

Shubman Gill, who is hailed as the ‘Prince of Cricket’, will be one of the key players for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

Shubman Gill Opens Up On Playing First World Cup For India

In the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023, Shubman Gill set the stage on fire and turned out to be the leading run-getter in the tournament. He was the only batter to have amassed over 300 runs at an average of over 75 as he smashed two fifties and one century in the 6 games that he played throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, Gill opened up about his feelings to represent the Indian cricket team for the first time in the World Cup. Speaking at the G-shock event on Wednesday, September 20, Gill said:

“It’s my first World Cup and it’s in India. My memories as a kid of watch my country play a World Cup, they are so refresh in my memory. To  be able to represent my country for the first time in the World Cup is an amazing feeling.”

Gill will be next seen playing for team India in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. The fans would expect him to continue with his stellar form against Australia. The much-awaited series against Australia will also provide Gill with a golden opportunity to dethrone Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and become the top-ranked ODI batter. He needs to score 200 runs to claim the top spot in the ICC ODI batters’ rankings.
