Yuvraj Singh Schools Shubman Gill Despite His Brilliant Century vs. Bangladesh – The Indian cricket team lost their final match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 round against Bangladesh. The Rohit Sharma-led team, which was the only unbeaten team so far in the tournament, was defeated by Shakib Al Hasan’s men in Colombo on Friday. Rohit Sharma’s team failed to chase down a target of 260 runs on a slow pitch at the R Premadasa Stadium on Friday and fell short of the target by 6 runs.
While most of the batters failed to live up to the expectations, India’s young opener Shubman Gill put up a stellar show during the game. He single-handedly carried India’s hopes during their 266 run-chase against Bangladesh. He smashed a brilliant knock of 121 runs off 133 runs, which was laced with eight fours and 5 sixes.
Shubman Gill formed crucial partnerships with KL Rahul (19) and later with Suryakumar Yadav (26). However, the Bangladesh bowlers got better off the Indian batters as they picked wickets at regular intervals. Upon reaching his century, Gill continued to attack, smashing a massive six over mid-wicket off Mahedi Hasan, but the Bangladeshi bowler made a comeback and dismissed him in the very next ball, caught out.

Gill was dismissed after he decided to take the aerial route, lofting a full delivery over mid-off but wasn’t able to clear the fence and was eventually caught at the long-off boundary by Towhid Hridoy. Gill was clearly disappointed with the shot as he walked off the crease.
Former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh, who shares a close bond with the youngster, shared a hard-hitting message for Gill.
Replying to Gill’s Instagram post, Yuvraj wrote, “Bad shot to get out ! Could have won the game single handed ! But nonetheless well played.”

Later, after the game, Shubman Gill talked about his performance and he himself admitted during the post-match press conference that it wasn’t the best of decisions to play an aggressive shot at the time. He said:
“When I got out actually …. something you miscalculated and I think this there was a miscalculation from my side. If I had batted a bit normally and not that aggressively I think we should have been able to get over the line. But these are the learning for us. Sometimes you misunderstood the situation and I did the same ….I have to learn from this. This wasn’t final for us and we have to learn from this,”
India will next take on Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final on Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
