SL vs IND: BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. This will be the first assignment for Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. There has been many notable exclusions and inclusions. One of them definitely has been Ravindra Jadeja in the ODI squad. He has found himself out of the ODI squad for the tour. Jadeja had already announced his retirement from T20I cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024. Fans felt that Jadeja will be a regular in the ODI and test format after his retirement from the shortest format of the game. So, his absence has surprised many fans.
A BCCI sources has given the reason behind Jadeja’s exclusion from the ODI squad. The source stated that there are only 6 ODI games ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. So, the selectors want to give more opportunities to Axar Patel and Washington Sundar.

“There are only six ODIs, including the three in Sri Lanka, before next year’s Champions Trophy. The selectors want to utilise the handful of games by giving more opportunities to Axar Patel and Washington Sundar,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to HT.
Ravindra Jadeja has been mainstay of the Indian ODI XI for a number of years. He contributes with the bat down the order, with his left arm spin and also his fielding. The source further stated that Jadeja’s performance is not the problem. It is just that the selectors want to look at all other options and build a team for future
“Nothing wrong with Jadeja’s performance. The management just wants to look at other options as we have to build a team for the future,” the source added.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Jadeja does get any more game in the ODI format going forward.
