“Something Must Have Happened” Suresh Raina Raised Doubts Over Virat Kohli’s Decision

Former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Suresh Raina hailed the legacy of the Indian great Virat Kohli, who resigned as the captain of the Indian cricket team with immediate effect on Saturday. Virat Kohli left the fans in shock after he made the big announcement, which came a day after team India’s three-match Test series defeat against South Africa.

Virat Kohli, who had taken over as the full-time captain of team India in 2014/2015, replacing the former Indian captain MS Dhoni, is hailed as one of the most successful Test skippers to have led the Indian cricket team, having won 40 wins in 68 matches.

Ever since Virat Kohli made the big announcement, social media has been buzzing with reactions from cricket lovers. Several cricketers, experts and fans are taking to Twitter to hail the legacy of the modern batting legend.

Among many, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina also joined the bandwagon and penned down a special post for Virat Kohli, where he accepted that he is shocked after the sudden decision of Virat Kohli but he also accepted the fact that he respects his call.

Raina also hailed Kohli as the most aggressive and fittest players team India has ever had. He wrote:

Although I also am shocked by @imVkohlisudden decision, I respect his call. I can only applaud him for what he has done for world cricket & India. Easily one of the most aggressive and fittest players India has had. Hope he’d continue to shine for India as a player.”

Later, Raina also spoke to Republic TV, where he said that something must have happened to prompt the player to take the decision. He said:

“Firstly whatever he has done with the Indian cricket team is remarkable. The way he played the game, the way he conducted the brand of the Indian cricket team…he’s taken the game forward and done remarkably well as a player and as a captain but I am very shocked. I don’t know why he stepped down as a captain but I think he must be having some reason but I think a player like him should be there but something must have happened that is why he must have stepped down.”

Raina also hailed Virat Kohli as the number one player in the world and expressed gratitude for his contribution to Indian cricket. He said:

“He’s the number one player in the world and his records speak for itself. He gave a lot of opportunities to the youngsters and he has set the platform for everyone.”
