Sourav Ganguly Takes A Controversial Dig At Virat Kohli: The Indian cricket team is gaining consistent success under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, who took over the captaincy reins from Virat Kohli last year. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be desperate to win the upcoming 2022 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, which is scheduled to take place in October-November, especially following India’s disastrous performance in the group stage during last year’s edition of the World Cup.
Ahead of the marque event, former Indian captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who is hailed as one of the most successful captains to have led the Indian side, talked about the stark difference in personalities of three different captains of different eras.
Well, during an event in Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly was asked to reflect on and compare the leadership styles of the current crop of captains who have led the Indian team after his retirement. Speaking about the same, he heaped praises on the leadership skills of MS Dhoni, who is known for his calm and composed demeanor. Talking about him, Ganguly said:
“India has produced some great captains over the years. MS Dhoni who handled the transition fantastically, and continues to bring accolades not just for India but his franchise (Chennai Super Kings),”
He added: “Then came Virat Kohli who also has a fantastic record. He was a different sort of captain, he did things differently. Every individual is different but what matters is the result and how many wins and losses you have. I don’t compare captains, everybody has their own way of leadership,”
Further, Ganguly also talked about the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Talking about him, he said that Rohit has a bit of laid back attitude. He said:
“Rohit Sharma is obviously a bit laid back who takes things in a very calm and cautious way and not someone who’s into your face all the time.”
While it might appear that Ganguly was poking fun at Rohit Sharma, however, if you read through the whole quote, you would understand that he was praising Rohit for not making decisions in haste.
On the other hand, he took a dig at Kohli while praising the Hitman Sharma. Kohli is known for his flamboyant style on and off the field. He was famous for being in the face of the opposition all the time and with his statement, Ganguly has made it pretty obvious that he doesn’t like that attitude.
