The players of Rajasthan Royals and SunRisers Hyderabad were seen wearing armbands for a somber reminder of the passing of former India cricketer Salim Durani, who passed away today at the age of 88.
Salim Durani was a well-known figure in Indian cricket, who represented the Indian cricket team between 1960 to 1973 and was renowned for his explosive batting and left-arm spin bowling skills. Salim was also the only Indian cricketer to be born in Afghanistan and this is what made him an iconic figure in the history of Indian cricket.
Paying their tribute and respect to the former Indian cricketer, both sides wore black armbands. A moment of silence was also held in his remembrance.
During his career, Durrani represented India in 29 Test matches, in which he scored 1202 runs with an average of 25, including one century and seven fifties. He also smashed 126 fours and 15 sixes throughout his career.
Talking about the ongoing game, Bhuvneshwar won the toss and opted to bowl first in Match 4 of the Indian Premier League 2023. Harry Brook, who joined the franchise for Rs 13.25 crore, has been handed the IPL debut cap. This is for the first time since 2019 that Sunrisers Hyderabad is playing at their home ground.
