SRK Gave A Standing Ovation To Shardul Thakur: Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 81 runs in their first game at their home ground Eden Gardens in Kolkata. KKR put up a stellar all-around show and registered their first win as they managed to get the better of RCB by 81 runs.

The 31-year-old all-rounder stole the show with the bat as he slammed the joint-fastest half-century of the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. He faced a total of 29 balls to score 68 runs. During his stay at the crease, he scored smashed nine fours and three sixes. He added 103 runs for the sixth wicket with Rinku Singh, who also played a crucial knock of 46 runs off 33 balls.

KKR was struggling at 89 runs for five in 11.3 overs when Shardul arrived and took the game by storm. His stellar knock ended on the fourth ball of the last over of KKR’s innings, and as he was returning to the dugout, KKR’s owner Shah Rukh Khan, who was present at the Eden Gardens on Thursday of the game, and was seen giving him a standing ovation for his amazing display with the bat

After the match, the expression on Thakur’s face as he walked up to receive the Man of the Match award. “Even I don’t know where it (the 68-run knock off 29 balls) came from… Looking at the scorecard, everyone would have said we were struggling. But then, your subconscious mind takes over,” Shardul, who also took a wicket bowling two overs, said at the post-match presentation.

Thakur credited range-hitting during practice sessions for his show with the bat. “You also have to have skills to do that at the higher level, while we also work hard at the nets.

“The coaching staff gives us the throwdowns and the option of range-hitting. And you know the pitches here. They always suit the batsmen, don’t they?”
