Earlier this week, Gill received a huge honor to be named the ‘state icon’ for his home state, Punjab, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Last time, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections for the 13 seats, there was a 65.96 vote percentage. The poll panel has set the target of “Is Vaar 70 Paar” for this year’s polls. The Punjab Chief Electoral Officer’s office appointed Gill to spread awareness about their campaign.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab shared the post on social media, tweeting, “Welcoming Shubman Gill as State Icon of Punjab. From pitching runs on the cricket field to pitching for high Voter Turnout in Lok Sabha Election 2024.”

Meanwhile, Gill has rocked back to form in Test cricket. After a sub-par last few series, Gill notched up a century in Vizag and then scored 91 in Rajkot, both in the second innings of India and both innings helped India record wins. His contribution, though, was overshadowed by the double centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The fourth Test against England is scheduled to kick start on Friday in Ranchi.
