Stuart Broad Mocked ICC For Praising Virat Kohli

Last updated:

The veteran England pacer Stuart Broad has mocked the International Cricket Council for praising the heart-winning gesture of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli towards the England skipper Joe Root.

For the unversed, Virat won everyone’s heart after he came to Joe Root’s rescue when he was struggling in pain on the ground. It happened when the penultimate over of the 1st day was getting bowled. Root, who was batting for long hours, slog-swept Ravi Ashwin and soon fell down on the ground.

As soon as the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli saw Root struggling in pain, he rushed towards him to his rescue and helped him by stretching his legs, which brought Root some relief.

Soon, the cricket fraternity started lauding the gesture of the Indian skipper. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also lauded the Indian skipper for his heart-winning gesture by sharing a picture of the incident on their official Instagram account. Sharing the picture, ICC wrote:

“When England captain Joe Root was struck with cramps, Virat Kohli was the first to his aid. A heartwarming Spirit of Cricket gesture.”

The post soon went viral and was flooded with amazing comments from the fans. Netizens just can’t stop praising the Indian skipper for his kind gesture.

However, this post by the ICC didn’t go down well with the veteran pacer Stuart Broad as he mocked the apex body for praising the Indian skipper. Broad mocked the ICC by reminding them that he too carried out drinks for the players in the game so he should also be getting the Spirit of Cricket Award. He commented:

“I ran a drink out too, spirit of cricket award?”
