IND vs ENG: "Is Pujara's Career Over?" - Stuart Broad Questioned BCCI After India's Batting Collapse

Stuart Broad Questioned BCCI After India’s Batting Collapse: On the second day of the fourth Test match in Ranchi, India found themselves in a precarious position due to the unpredictable bounce on the pitch.

With the team struggling at 177/7, a resilient partnership between Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav saved them from potentially being bowled out for under 200 runs. India’s troubles followed England’s substantial first innings total of 353 runs, achieved on Saturday, February 24th. The Indian batters faced difficulties in handling the England spinners, leading to a flurry of wickets on Day 2.

Shoaib Bashir played a crucial role in causing the collapse of the Indian batting lineup, taking quick wickets of Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, and Ravindra Jadeja. India’s strong start, reaching 110/2, quickly turned into a troubling situation as they fell to 177/7 in just over 20 overs.

Meanwhile, the unexpected batting collapse against spinners led former England cricketer Stuart Broad to question Cheteshwar Pujara’s future in Test cricket. Broad expressed his thoughts on Twitter, suggesting that India could have performed better in the Ranchi Test if a player like Pujara had been there to stabilize the innings. He wrote:

“With the experience & world class talent of Kohli missing, would there have been temptation to bring back Pujara into this India batting line up? Or is his international career over? Feels like he could have brought some consistency and an anchor ⚓️”

Where is Cheteshwar Pujara?

Since the World Test Championship Final 2023, veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara has been out of the team, with Shubman Gill taking his place at No. 3. Gill struggled initially but impressed with a century in Vizag and a near-century in Rajkot.

Meanwhile, Pujara excelled in domestic cricket, scoring heavily in the Ranji Trophy. Captain Rohit Sharma indicated that the team would focus on giving opportunities to young players during the home series.
