Sunil Gavaskar Slammed India’s Decision Of Resting Jasprit Bumrah: Sensational Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah has become the backbone of the Indian cricket team. The 27-year-old plays in all three formats of the game. Therefore, he has been rested for the ongoing 2nd Test match against England so that he stays fresh and fit whenever called upon.
The Indian pace sensation had missed the Brisbane Test because of fitness issues before he made a comeback in the first test match against England in Chennai.
However, after the toss, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli took everyone by surprise after he informed that Jasprit Bumrah was being rested for the second match. Explaining the reason behind the same, Virat said that the team doesn’t want to take its players to the brink of breaking down. He said:
“Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for this game. We need to manage workloads as well, understanding how much cricket we have got to play in the next few months. We need to have our players fit and ready. Not take them to the brink of breaking down.”
Meanwhile, the decision didn’t go down well with the legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who slammed India for resting their ‘number 1’ bowler in a marquee series. Speaking on StarSports, Gavaskar said that there is already a gap of seven days between the second and third Tests, therefore there was no need of resting Bumrah in this match. He said:
“You don’t rest your number one bowler in the name of workload management. Jasprit Bumrah is India’s number one bowler with the new ball, while Ravichandran Ashwin is the number one spinner. When you have lost the opening game of such a crucial series, you can’t rest your number one pacer. I am baffled by Bumrah’s snub, as there is a seven-day recovery time after the second Test match,”
