Former Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings’ superstar Suresh Raina named the potential candidates from CSK’s current squad who can take over the captaincy duties from the iconic captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Chennai Super Kings have been extremely lucky to have the legendary captain MS Dhoni maneuver their ship for all these years. Dhoni has been leading the Chennai-based franchise ever since the inception of the IPL in 2008.
Having led the team to IPL win four times, MSD is one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL. Besides this, he has led his team to nine IPL finals out of the 12 seasons they played in the tournament. Apart from Dhoni, Suresh Raina is the only other cricketer who has led the Chennai outfit in six IPL matches during MSD’s absence from the team.
Meanwhile, Suresh Raina, who is also the leading run-scorer of the franchise with 5529 runs from 200 IPL games, named the potential candidates from CSK’s current squad. He feels that the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa, and Dwayne Bravo could be the front-runners for the captaincy post. He said:
“Rayudu is there then you have Robin Uthappa then DJ Bravo is there. Jadeja, I think, has a good cricketing brain and has been performing well recently,”
Suresh Raina went unsold for the first time during the IPL 2022 auction, but he will be seen in a new role of a commentator. Talking about his debut for commentary in the IPL, he said:
“I am prepared for this. Some of my friends Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawala are already doing commentary. And then we will have Ravi Bhai (Shashtri) also in this season. So I think it’s going to be easy for me. I can take tips from my friends,”
