Mumbai Indians’ star batter Suryakumar Yadav had a stellar season with the bat in the recently-concluded 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Suryakumar, who is fondly called “SKY” by fans and teammates, is currently in England with the Indian cricket team, where he is gearing up for the much-awaited World Test Championship Final 2023, which is going to take place at ‘The Oval’ in London.
Meanwhile, ahead of the high-voltage summit clash, Surya got candid and revealed about the origin of his nickname SKY.
Suryakumar Yadav Revealed Gautam Gambhir Gave Him The Nickname
Well, in a video shared by the BCCI via their official Twitter handle, Surya talked about the origin of his nickname SKY. He revealed that it was Gautam Gambhir who came up with this nickname. He revealed:
“It came in 2014/15 when I was playing for my franchise KKR, that time Gauti bhai ( Gautam Gambhir) gave this name because Suryakumar Yadav he said was too long for everyone to call so SKY came from there.”
For the unversed, SKY was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) setup from 2014 till 2017. During that time Gautam Gambhir was the captain of the side.
During his time with KKR, Surya used to bat down the order as a finished, but despite that, he played some crucial knocks to help the team win the title.
SKY Named The Biggest Prankster In The Team
Further in the video, Suryakumar also spoke about his favorite teammates and the biggest pranksters within the team. He also revealed the name of the biggest pranksters within the team. He said:
“Lot of them. If you look around everyone is my best mate but I love spending time with Ishan and Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, good to be around them. [On the best pranksters] Many of them but Ishan Kishan takes the pole position followed by Siraj, Axar Patel.”
Yadav also shared his thoughts on his famous ‘Supla Shot’ that has become a sensation among the fans. Talking about the same, he revealed:
“The term has come from tennis cricket. I’ve seen a lot of them when I go back home and the shot means the ball which you hit right behind the wicket-keeper when it’s short coming right at your head so it’s something like going behind that I love playing,”
Talking about his professional front, Surya would be looking forward to getting featured in the playing XI for the WTC Final 2023. He didn’t have the best of the start in the longest format of the game, scoring just 8 runs in the first Test match of the recent Border Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur.
