Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee has backed the Australian cricket team to win the T20 World Cup 2022. In his latest column with the International Cricket Council (ICC), Brett Lee said that Australia is a stronger team in this World Cup than they were last year during the 2021 T20 World Cup. This is the first time that Australia is hosting the World Cup, which gives them an added advantage at home conditions.
The team decided to make only one change in their title-winning 2021 squad, where they brought in lower-order big hitter Tim David in place of spinner Mitchell Swepson. Tim David was drafted straight into the playing XI for his special ability to hit the ball very hard. Speaking about David, Brett Lee, in his piece, wrote:
“The fact that Tim David is the new face in the team is an indication of the stability of the defending champions, and a big reason why I think they could do it again and go back-to-back.,”
The player also warned the opponents about the Australian pace bowling attack, who have impressed everyone with their ability to bowl hot and cold in recent times. Slamming the people who wrote off the Australian pace attack, Lee wrote: “…If they are going to do that, the bowlers will probably need to pick it up after the big guns struggled in Canberra, but write off Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood at your peril. Those guys have done it time and again on the big stage, and will thrive in the Aussie conditions,”
Further, Brett Lee wrote that expects the team to do well and lift the prestigious World Cup trophy. He wrote: “Between their experience and the talent with both bat and ball, there is no reason why Australia should not be right in the mix at the business end of the tournament,” Lee said
“And considering this is the first time the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is being played in Australia, expect it to be an amazing event with the crowds cheering on Aaron Finch and the guys – starting with an electric atmosphere at the SCG,” he concluded.
