T20 World Cup 2022: “One of the most remembered shots in T20 WC history”: Ricky Ponting Hailed Virat Kohli’s Shot Against Haris Rauf

Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli is in some terrific how off-lately. Kohli not just made a comeback into his brilliant form but also proved why he is often regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He silenced his critics with his performances, which found significant acceleration on the international stage since the Asia Cup this year.

Virat Kohli’s brilliant knock against Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2022 season opener match as one of the best knocks played by Indian cricketers. He stole all the show with his bat. He started where he left off in the Asia Cup and smashed a brilliant 82 not out.  Pakistan cricket team tried their best to take the wicket of Virat Kohli, however, Kohli got the better of the Pakistani bowlers and smashed them all around the ground.

In the last over, Babar Azam sent Harris Rauf to defend runs as his last roll of the dice but Kohli crushed their hopes. He smashed two sixes on the final two balls of the 19th over. Haris Rauf delivered a slower one on the fifth ball and Kohli timed it well and smashed it down the ground for a stunning six. In the next ball, he again hit another one and got the same result.

Virat Kohli’s six off Haris Rauf’s deliver in the fifth ball of the 19th over off pacer has become one of the most talked about moments from the India vs Pakistan game. Kohli smashed a short of a length delivery straight over the bowler’s head for a massive six, as fans and experts were left stunned at the unbelievable shot.

Meanwhile, legendary Australian ex-captain Ricky Ponting to has been mesmerized by the shot played by Virat Kohli. In an interaction with the T20 World Cup website, Ponting said that the shot will be remembered as one of the most memorable shots in the history of the T20 World Cup. He said:

“It’s going to go down as one of the most remembered and talked about shots probably in – I won’t say white-ball cricket history – but certainly T20 World Cup history,”

Further, Ponting said that the last two balls of the 19th over of the game were extremely important. He said: “They would have known, having done the calculations, that it was going to have to be the spinner that was going to bowl the last over. That just goes to show how important the last two balls of the 19th over were,”

He added: “They had to get boundaries on those two or the game was done. What had sort of happened in the over previous as well, Virat was setting up for something that was going to be full. He was almost half through his swing and then the length is not there, and he was good enough to hold his shape and find the middle and hit it far enough to get it not just over the fence,” he said referring to Kohli’s moment of magic,”

On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on November 7 announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for October 2022.
