T20 World Cup 2022: Suryakumar Yadav Gave An Epic Reaction After Ravi Shastri Called Him A ‘3 Format Player’

Since making his T20 debut for the Indian team in March 2021, Suryakumar Yadav has become an important member of the team, performing vigorously. Suryakumar Yadav, who has played 36 matches for the team, is going through the golden phase of his cricket career and Team India is benefiting from it. The veterans are also happy with Suryakumar’s stellar performance in white ball cricket. Ravi Shastri, the former coach of the Indian team, even said that Suryakumar should be given a chance in red-ball cricket as well.

32-year-old Suryakumar represented India in the T20 World Cup played in UAE last year and this time is part of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. After being dismissed cheaply against Pakistan, Suryakumar scored a fifty in 25 balls in the match against the Netherlands.

In this innings, he hit 7 fours and a six. Thanks to this powerful innings, Suryakumar also became the highest run-scorer in T20 International in 2022. He has scored 867 runs in 25 matches this year.

Suryakumar was interviewed by former India coach Ravi Shastri after the 56-run win against the Netherlands and during this a short clip of their conversation has been shared by the ICC on its Instagram account. Shastri backed Surya to represent India in all three formats of the game and said he can surprise some in red-ball cricket.

“I think he (Suryakumar Yadav) is a three format player,” Shastri said. “I know they don’t talk about him for Test cricket. He’s a three format player. This guy can play Test cricket. And he can surprise a few. Send him there at number 5, let him stir it up.”  

The 32-year-old recalled how Shastri told him to just bat freely ahead of his debut.  “I still remember he (Shastri) called me up. He was sitting by the pool side before me making the debut and said ‘Jaake bindaas Dena’ (Go Enjoy Yourself). I still remember that. I am just loving it,” he said.
