In one of the major upsets at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022, Zimbabwe defeated the Pakistan cricket team by one run in an absolute thriller at Perth. Despite posting a modest total of 130.8, Zimbabwe’s bowlers pulled off a performance for the ages as they managed to keep the Pakistan batters at bat and registered their first win of the tournament.
Despite having top-notch batters like Babar Azam, Mohammed Rizwan, and Masood in their line-up, Pakistan failed to chase down the target of just 131 runs on the scoreboard. The entire final over was full of drama. Nawaz looked like collecting a boundary off the first ball however a tremendous effort by skipper Craig Ervine at the long-off boundary denied the Pakistan side and they had to settle for three.
Meanwhile, after Pakistan’s embarrassing performance, fans on social media started trolling the Babar Azam-led side left, right, and center. Notably, the Pakistan-Zimbabwe match became a much-discussed topic on Twitter even before the game kickstarted. Why? Because of a character portrayed by British actor Rowan Atkinson — Mr. Bean. Even Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson couldn’t stop himself from trolling the Pakistan cricket team after Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan. He wrote:
“What a win for Zimbabwe! Congratulations to the Chevrons. Next time, send the real Mr Bean…#PakvsZim 🇿🇼”

After the match, during the post-match ceremony, Babar Azam talked about his side’s dismissal performance. He said 130 was a decent total but the team was on the backfoot after losing the openers early in the game. He said: “We would have taken 130 at the halfway stage. Very disappointing performance, we are not up to the mark in batting. We have good batters but both openers got out in the powerplay. When Shadab and Shan were building partnership, unfortunately Shadab got out and then back-to-back wickets that pushed us into pressure situation. First 6 overs, we haven’t used the new ball well but we finished well with the ball. We will sit out, discuss our mistakes and we will train hard and come back strong in our next game,”
