Cricket LoungeBy Cricket Lounge06/06/2017Updated:08/02/2023No Comments2 Mins Read

ICC Champions Trophy is the second most prestigious tournament in limited overs cricket, after the ICC Cricket World Cup. Champions Trophy is played between the top 8 teams and because of its competitive nature, it is one of the most exciting tournaments to watch.

In ICC Champions Trophy 2017 so far, we have not witnessed any nail-bitting finish. It’s still early days but overcast weather conditions in the United Kingdom have played spoilsport in almost all the games. Two important games featuring Australia have been abandoned due to bad weather conditions and this will have a big impact on their progress in the tournament.

We have also had a few injuries that just before or during the tournament. Here is a list of players who have suffered injuries after getting named in their respective squads for ICC Champions Trophy 2017:

Manish Pandey (India)

The first one to get ruled out was India’s middle-order batsman Manish Pandey. Pandey is a very exciting young batsman and ICC Champions Trophy 2017 could have been a big moment in his career. But, Pandey was ruled out of the tournament due to a left side strain which he incurred during the Indian Premier League (IPL 2017).

Chris Woakes (England)

England’s fast bowler Chris Woakes suffered a side strain against their opening match against Bangladesh and was ruled out for the rest of the tournament. Woakes has been in fine form and his absence will surely hurt England’s chances in ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Steve Finn was later announced as his replacement.

Wahab Riaz (Pakistan)

Pakistan’s fast bowler Wahab Riaz suffered an ankle injury during their opening match of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 against India. Wahab is one of the most experienced bowlers in Pakistan and his absence will surely hurt Pakistan’s chances in the tournament.

“A scan has confirmed that Wahab Riaz suffered a deltoid ligament complex after an eversion injury mechanism while bowling,” a Pakistan Cricket Board release said.

Angelo Mathews (Sri Lanka)

We hope this list doesn’t expand any further and we get to see our favourite superstars giving their best on the field.
