Difference Between The Salaries Of IPL And PSL Captains: Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League have now gained helluva traction over the course of years and is now being ranked as two of the highest-rated sporting tournaments across the world in the cricketing roster.
Barring the top-end brand of cricket that these two leagues offer, they are also bankrolled by some massive magnates who ensure the free-flow of cash in the tournaments and also keeps the form of the sport on a very high end.
Star Sports, the official broadcasters of IPL invested a staggering sum of 2.5 billion USD (Rs 16350 crores) when they bagged the viewership rights of IPL from 2018-22.
Such a high flow of cash naturally ensures the fact that the presentation of IPL stays top-notch. In fact, in the midst of COVID 19, IPL shattered all the viewership records, penning the history of their own.
Given better viewership and higher sponsorship, this allows the franchises to give better payments to their players and captains, making the auctions and the show much more interesting and fascinating. We are all aware of how wonderfully IPL has fared over the years, especially on the monetary front, and now we would like to have a glimpse of how exactly did IPL’s primary rival, PSL has performed over the years.
This will ideally be a contrast between the salary of captains from both the leagues that will paint a fair picture between the financial structures of the tournament.
Virat Kohli (26 crores) vs Shadab Khan (1 crore)
The Indian captain who also steers the boat of Royal Challengers Bangalore earns a whopping Rs 26 crores that sees him earning Rs 2.4 crores from IPL while the rest comes from endorsements.
Islamabad United, in the meanwhile, has ruled the PSL roost until now with Misbah Ul Haq being their best skipper. Shadab Khan took over the mantle once Misbah stepped down and has done a fair bit of job. However, when it comes to the salary, Shadab is nowhere close to that of Virat. He earns a modest amount of Rs 1 crore that makes this comparison, not just lopsided but downright askew in favor of IPL.
MS Dhoni (Rs 15 crores) vs Sarfaraz Khan (Rs 1 crore)
Dhoni represents one of the most successful teams of IPL known as the Chennai Super Kings. Despite 2020 being a rough ride for the Yellow Army, Dhoni’s financial spectrum saw no dip. With a sterling record as a captain and a player, Dhoni bags an amount close to Rs 15 crores and will most likely receive a jump considering the fact he was the most popular player that brands used to portray themselves.
Quetta Gladiators, the contingency led by Sarfaraz Ahmed has been one of the finest sides of PSL. Like Dhoni, Sarfaraz has spearheaded his national team and the franchise for quite some time now. Sarfaraz packs a powerful punch when it comes to the assortment of the players by categories, however, despite being a part of the platinum tier in PSL, his salary is just Rs 1 crore that is nowhere close to Dhoni’s income.
Rohit Sharma (Rs 15 crores) vs Wahab Riaz (Rs 1 crore)
The Indian hitman and vice-captain, Rohit Sharma has transcended himself beyond others when it comes to batting and carving some masterstrokes. Not only has been an absolute rock in the Indian opening but a fine player in the ranks of Mumbai. His prowess in dealing with short balls is absolutely unparalleled while his pulls and hooks are a treat for the eyes. Given his illustrious stature, Sharma bags an income of Rs 15 crores.
Peshawar Zalmi decided to drop Darren Sammy from their captaincy and hand it over to the renowned Pakistani fast bowler. Despite being a marquee player of Peshawar Zalmi, Wahab Riaz only brings home a salary of Rs 1 crore. The gap between the two leagues seems to manifest itself further.
David Warner (Rs 12 crores) vs Imad Wasim (Rs 50 lakhs)
The lone warrior for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season, David Warner has been in red-hot form and has unleashed brutal carnages in recent days. He has also led his team from the front and the confidence and aggression that the Australian opener has shown is nothing short of magnificent. Even his salary lingers around the Rs 12 crores mark and his flair in the game is a justification of the amount splurged on him.
Karachi Kings, have shown a decent outing so far though they are still to lay their hands upon the coveted trophy. They have been led by Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik previously while the franchise has now decided to vest their powers upon a soaring Imad Wasim who has so far done a commendable job. However, when it comes to the monetary side, he only bags a salary of Rs 50 lakhs. That isn’t a difference. It seems like an inter-dimensional rift.
KL Rahul (Rs 11 crores) vs Darren Sammy (Rs 40 lakhs)
Rahul has been in scintillating touch since the kick-start of the tournament and leads the race to Orange cap by a significant mile for the ongoing edition. Though not being in the same league as that of Kohli, Rohit, and Dhoni, he is busy in building a growing empire of his and in that his income kisses the amount of Rs 11 crores.
Sammy has been one of the most successful captains of Peshawar Zalmi, leading them to four playoffs and a championship. He himself was equally involved as a player leading them from the front while as a captain, his ideas have sparked a revolution. Unfortunately, the figures that back him up is not really something that he can adore. He earns an amount of Rs 40 lakhs from PSL, once again accentuating the monetary chasm between Pakistan’s elite league and India’s domestic extravaganza.
