These 6 Indian Cricketers Failed To Clear The New Fitness Test: The Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket teams have reached new heights in terms of fitness. The way team India has been focusing on the fitness of a player is one of the reasons behind the success of Team India in the last few seasons. Now in order to push the cricketers further, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new 2km fitness test.

As per the reports, most of the senior players, who are currently participating in the ongoing 4-match Test series against England were exempted from the test considering their guideline schedule. The fitness test was conducted for the first time featuring junior-players like Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Siddarth Kaul, Ishan Kishan, etc.

Now it has been reported that a total of 6 Indian cricketers, including the wicketkeeper-batsman, have failed the test. And as per reports, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Siddarth Kaul and Jaydev Unadkat have failed to clear the test.

However, these players will be given second chances by the BCCI as it was their maiden attempt. But in case they fail to clear the test on the second attempt too, their selection could for the upcoming T20I and ODI will be in danger. A source revealed:

“Since this is a new type of a fitness test, they will all get a second chance to clear it at a fresh date, after some gap. However, if they fail to clear it, then it puts their selection for the forthcoming white-ball series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs against England at home in doubt,”

As per the sources, the new fitness test got a green signal from head coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli. The source added:

“A few fitness tests were conducted for around 20-odd cricketers who are in the reckoning for the limited-overs series against England at home, and for the T20 World Cup in India later this year. Among these tests was the now-famous yo-yo test and the new ‘2km run’ fitness test.

“In this test, a batsman, wicketkeeper, or a spinner has to complete the two-kilometre distance in eight minutes and 30 seconds, while for a fast bowler, the benchmark is eight minutes and 15 seconds. Six of the players failed to clear these tests. Some players barely managed to complete the run”
