This Tweet Proves Ravindra Jadeja Knew Last Year That He Will Become CSK’s Captain

This Tweet Proves Ravindra Jadeja Knew Last Year That He Will Become CSK’s Captain: On Thursday it was announced that MS Dhoni had decided to step down as the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings just two days prior to the start of the 15th edition of the IPL.

The franchise announced this with a statement that also revealed that it was Dhoni’s decision to hand over the baton to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who now becomes only the third captain of CSK; Suresh Raina has led the franchise in a few matches when Dhoni was rested of injured.

Interestingly, though, last year Jadeja had expressed his desire to lead CSK post MS Dhoni! During September last year, one Twitter account by the name of ‘CSK Fans Army’ had asked their fans who they wish to see lead CSK following Dhoni. Jadeja replied with “8“, his jersey number to answer that question.

However, realizing that his comment will gain plenty of unwanted news and controversy with Dhoni still captaining the side last season and no successor of the skipper earmarked publicly by the franchise, Jadeja quickly deleted that tweet. But the fans had by then taken screenshots of his response.

Here’s Jadeja’s deleted tweet from last year:

Further, in a startling revelation, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan hinted that Jadeja had been talked to earlier about him being groomed in the captaincy role even last season! And hence, perhaps one can understand why Jadeja had predicted him leading the franchise after Dhoni.

“He [Jadeja] has been talked to earlier. Even last year, there was a proposal. We knew he would be the best person to succeed MS,” Kasi Viswanathan told ESPNcricinfo soon after the news of Jadeja’s appointment as the new skipper was announced.

Viswanathan said that the franchise has full faith in Ravindra Jadeja to carry on Dhoni’s legacy at CSK.

“Jaddu has the potential to do well for the franchise. [He is a] good all-round cricketer, playing his best, he can get the team around. And MS’ guidance will always be there. This will be a good induction programme,” he added.

Jadeja’s first test as CSK’s captain will be against KKR on Saturday.
