Team India captain Rohit Sharma was recently spotted having fun while playing gully cricket near his residence in Worli, Mumbai, while he is on a rest from international cricket.

Following the gruelling, intense two-month long IPL 2022 campaign, the Mumbai Indians skipper along with star cricketers Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah were given a rest from the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa.

Rohit Sharma smacks sixes in gully cricket

A few days prior to flying to England, Sharma reminisced his younger days as he came out and played street cricket with other locality youngsters. Whether it’s international cricket or gully cricket, Sharma doesn’t refrain from hitting sixes as he, wearing a hat, T-shirt and a Capri, Sharma swatted one hit down the ground that went a long way. He had a hearty laugh about it.

Gully cricket aside, Rohit Sharma would shrug off the batting issues that he faced during the IPL 2022 where both Sharma himself and his side, Mumbai Indians, gave a disappointing show.

As the five-time champions finished at the bottom of the table, Sharma couldn’t even notch up a single fifty in the entire season despite getting some starts! He finished with 268 runs at an average of 19 and a strike rate of 120.

After MI’s last league game in the IPL 2022, a win over Delhi Capitals, Rohit had admitted that he was disappointed but asserted he was only one “minor adjustment” away from getting back his mojo.

“A lot of things that I wanted to do didn’t happen. But this has happened with me earlier as well, so it’s not something I am going through for the first time,” Rohit had said last month.

“I know cricket doesn’t end here; there is a lot of cricket ahead. So I need to take care of the mental aspect and think about how I can return to form and perform. It’s only a minor adjustment and I will try to work on that whenever there is some time off.”

Barring an injury, the Edgbaston Test will be the first time Rohit will lead India in an away Test. Under the Virat Kohli–Shastri regime, India took a lead of 2-1 after four Tests when the fifth Test was postponed due to the covid-19 outbreak. The Test match will be followed by three T20Is and as many ODIs.
