Tilak Varma Can Break This Record Of Virat Kohli In The 4th T20I: The Indian cricket team finally registered a win in the ongoing 5-match T20I series after losing the first two games of the series. The Hardik Pandya-led side successfully chased down a total of 160 runs with seven wickets left in the third T20I.

Suryakumar Yadav and youngster Tilak Varma were the architects of India’s stunning win that helped him stay alive in the ongoing series. While SKY played a stunning knock of 83 runs off 44 balls, smashing 10 fours and 4 sixes, on the other hand, Tilak played yet another crucial unbeaten knock of 49 runs.

With his stunning knock, Tilak Varma, who made his debut during the first T20I match of the series itself, broke former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s record of most runs after three t20I innings for team India.  With the score of 39, 51, and 49 not out, Tilak has 139 runs to his name, second most after three T20I innings with Deepak Hooda at the top.

Tilak surpassed Gambhir, who had amassed 109 runs, 0 against Pakistan, 51 against New Zealand, and 58 against England at the 2007 T20 World Cup. Deepak Hooda scored 172 runs – 21 against Sri Lanka, and unbeaten 47 and 104 against Ireland last year and he remains on top with the total score.

Meanwhile, the youngster can break the record of Virat Kohli for most runs in the bilateral t20I series for India. Virat Kohli, who holds the majority of runs in the shortest format of the game, recorded 231 runs against England at home in a five-match T20I series in March 2021.

KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are the only two Indian players with over 200 runs in the five-match bilateral T20I series but Tilak is on the verge of joining the elite list in the upcoming two games against West Indies. Varma needs only 61 runs to score 200 runs and 92 runs to become India’s highest run-scorer in single bilateral T20I series.

Most runs in single five-match bilateral T20I series for India:

  1. Virat Kohli – 231 runs vs England in March 2021
  2. KL Rahul – 224 runs vs New Zealand in January-February 2020
  3. Ishan Kishan – 206 runs vs South Africa in June 2022
  4. Shreyas Iyer – 153 runs vs New Zealand in January-February 2020
  5. Tilak Varma – 139 runs vs West Indies in August 2023
