Tim Paine Picks His Australia XI For Fourth Ashes Test: Ex-Australian cricket captain, Tim Paine, recently shared his anticipated lineup for the fourth Ashes Test match at Old Trafford. Despite some ongoing debate, Paine’s suggested XI only sees a single change from the previous Test. The shift involves replacing Scott Boland with the formidable Josh Hazlewood.

Paine chose to retain the under-pressure David Warner in the lineup, to the surprise of some fans. He stated in his chat on SEN Tassie Breakfast, “People are going to be slightly disappointed if you’re looking for any headlines or any drastic changes.” Warner’s place seems secured despite his struggles, highlighting Paine’s faith in the experienced opener.

An absence worth noting in Paine’s roster is Cameron Green, sidelined due to a minor hamstring issue during the third Test. This decision, while pragmatic, may also leave fans speculating about Green’s future role. Nevertheless, Paine reaffirms his commitment to player wellbeing and readiness.

Paine shared, “Both of these teams under their new coaches have tried to set an environment where guys feel really comfortable.” He added that the management, including Andrew McDonald, George Bailey, and Tony Dodemaide, strives to ensure players know they are trusted implicitly.

His proposed lineup for the Manchester Test is as follows: “Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head at five. Mitchell Marsh at six, Alex Carey at seven, Mitch Starc at eight, captain Patty Cummins at nine, Todd Murphy at ten, and Josh Hazlewood at eleven.”

Paine explained his decision to stick with Mitchell Marsh despite the absence of Green. He highlighted that comfort in the XI is important, but form and performance demand precedence. He emphasized, “In a big series like this, when someone comes in and takes the spot and grabs it like that, you’ve got to stick with a guy who is clearly in form.”

The endorsement of Marsh comes after his notable performance in the series, demonstrating Paine’s belief in the all-rounder’s current prowess. Paine concluded, “Mitch Marsh gets the nod for me.”

In the end, these are merely Paine’s views on the ideal XI for the upcoming fourth Test. Whether his predictions align with the official team selection remains to be seen. Fans await the real lineup with bated breath, hoping for an Australian victory at Old Trafford.
