Former India coach Ravi Shastri recently made a big comment on the temperament of MS Dhoni, hailing the equanimity of the former India captain as the best in the world, better than even the great Sachin Tendulkar.
MS Dhoni is known ‘Captain Cool’ for a reason. And Ravi Shastri, who had worked extensively with Dhoni, explained the reason for this. The Ranchi-born cricketer has rarely been captured displaying emotions on the cricket field. Shastri said that Dhoni has an incredible equilibrium in his mind, he deals with a victory and a hundred in the same way as a loss and a duck
Ravi Shastri gushed about MS Dhoni’s “unreal” composure while talking with Shoaib Akhtar on the latter’s Youtube channel. Both the stalwarts are currently in Oman, for the inaugural edition of the Legends League Cricket, where Shastri is the Commissioner of the League and Akhtar is playing for Asia Lions.
He said that even Sachin Tendulkar used to get angry sometimes, but not Dhoni.
“MS Dhoni was unreal. I have never seen a guy like him in my life. Whether he makes a zero or a 100, or lift a World Cup or get knocked out in the first round, it never mattered to him. I promise you, I have seen a lot of players but none like Dhoni. I have seen even Sachin Tendulkar. Fantastic temperament but sometimes get angry but this guy never gets angry. He didn’t care,” Ravi Shastri said.
Shastri further revealed that despite spending years with Dhoni, he still doesn’t have the personal number of the wicket-keeper. He reasoned that Dhoni doesn’t keep a phone with him and it’s difficult to get in touch with him, even for the BCCI officials.
“In fact, if he can avoid having the phone in his hand, he will avoid the phone in his hand. Honestly, even till today, I don’t have his number. I have never asked for his number even. Because I know he never carries his phone and if you have to get in touch with him, you know how to get in touch with him. MS is that kind of a guy,” the former coach added.
Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020 having played his last game for India in the 2019 World Cup, will be seen in the yellow colours of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022. He led CSK to their fourth IPL title last season.
