“Trent Boult Is Looking For Sandpaper” – Shaun Pollock Takes Hilarious Dig At Aussies

Commentator Shaun Pollock took a hilarious dig at the Australian, invoking the sandpaper jibe when doing commentary during the bowling of Trent Boult against South Africa.

South Africa and New Zealand met for a crucial World Cup 2023 match – the match number 32 with 2 very important points at stake in regard to the points table standings – on Wednesday at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Despite knowing South Africa’s thunderous record in recent times while batting first, and their dodgy, panicky batting when chasing, the Kiwi captain Tom Latham elected to bowl first.

Trent Boult started off superbly in his first spell and conceded only 11 runs in his first 4 overs including a maiden. However, Trent Boult wasn’t getting much swing for he’s known for.

Maybe Trent Boult is looking for sandpaper: Shaun Pollock said during commentary in NZ vs SA

Doing commentary in that phase was Shaun Pollock, who cheekily suggested that maybe Trent Boult should use Sandpaper – referring to the Sandpaper incident in Cape Town in 2018 after which Steve Smith, David, Warner, and Cameron Bancroft were suspended for ball tampering – to get some swing.

“Latham is keeping those two slips in place. They are into the seventh over. Boult gets early swing but he hasn’t got much. Maybe he’s looking for sandpaper, just to clip off a little bit of edge,” Shaun Pollock said during the 7th over of South Africa’s innings.

Incidentally, in his 5th over in a row, Trent Boult got the wicket of the South Africa captain, Temba Bavuma, with an outswiinger that slanted away from the right-hander.

Meanwhile, the Proteas plundered another massive total batting first: centuries from Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen, and a quickfire fifty from Miller helped South Africa post 357/4.
