A tragic news for Pakistan’s cricket board, ahead of their tour to England, 7 more of their cricketers have tested positive for COVID-19. On Monday, 3 Pakistani cricketers, namely Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan, had tested positive for the virus.
On Tuesday, cricketers including Fakhar Zaman, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan, and Wahab Riaz, tested positive for Coronavirus.
The news has come out as a huge shock for the cricket board of Pakistan as the players were to travel to England on June 28 for a full tour. In a media conference, Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) CEO, Wasim Khan confirmed the news. He said:
“Like Haider, Haris and Shadab none of the seven players and masseur had reported any prior symptoms of Covid-19 until they underwent first round of testing on Monday ahead of the side’s departure for Manchester.”
“The PCB medical panel is already in contact with these players and the masseur, who have been instructed to observe strict quarantine at their homes for their and their families’ wellbeing,”
He added:
“The recent positive tests of some of the fittest athletes, who had not shown any symptoms, clearly reflect the danger this virus possesses,”
Wasim Khan also said that if Coronavirus can happen to these cricketers than it can happen to anyone. He said:
“It is not a great situation to be in and what it shows is these are 10 fit and young athletes…if it can happen to players it can happen to anyone,”
Apart from this, a support staff member, masseur Malang Ali, had also tested positive for COVID-19.
As soon as the news came out, social media was already flooded with the reactions of Twitterati on this. Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati on this:
