After winning the Test series 3-0, Team India whitewashed Sri Lanka yet again in the One Day International (ODI) series and won the series 5-0. Sri Lanka were outplayed mercilessly in almost every inning of the series. From batting to fielding, India were too strong for the home side.
Sri Lankan cricket is going through a transformation period after successive retirements of their star cricketers like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Tilakaratne Dilshan. Their inability to groom young cricketers to replace ageing cricketers at the right time is hurting them badly. And now it will require a massive effort from all corners of Sri Lanka cricket to revive their game and once again be what they used to be till a couple of years ago.
India, on the other hand, are getting stronger with every series. Their young and dynamic leader Virat Kohli leads from the front and gives his best every single Team India steps on the field. In the fifth ODI, he registered his 30th ODI hundred and went past Ricky Ponting on the list of leading hundreds scorers in ODI cricket. Both, Kohli and Ponting, have 30 hundreds to their credit, but the Indian captain has done in much lesser number of matches, and this is why he is now ahead of the former Australian captain.
Coming back to India’s big victory, India cricketers celebrated the emphatic victory in a very old-fashioned way and turned the clock back. There used to be a time when teams used to celebrate series wins by driving around on the man of the series vehicle around the park. After winning the fifth ODI, MS Dhoni drove his teammates around the park on a multix car which was used to serve drinks during drink breaks.
Indian cricket fans couldn’t hide their joy and excitement on seeing the good old way of celebrating series win and flooded Twitter with brilliant tweets. In this post, we have embedded some of the best for you. Have a look:
