Updated Points Table Of WTC After India’s Victory In The Second Test: India defeated Australia by 6 wickets in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Delhi, and have now put one more giant step closer to sealing their place in the World Test Championship Final.

Although Australia have maintained their top spot in the WTC points table, with India also still at second position, the PCT (win-percentage) gap has reduced significantly between the two teams.

Victory in the third Test, in Indore, is likely to take India to the top and seal their place in the WTC final.

India’s PCT has shot up to 64.06 while Australia’s has decreased to 66.67.

Following India’s victory in Delhi, South Africa are eliminated from the race to the WTC final. Now only Australia, India, and Sri Lanka(53.33 percentage)remain in the race to the WTC final.

While the 4-0 win over Australia will surely take India to the WTC final, Pat Cummins’ side can still be ousted.

If Australia lost 4-0 to India and Sri Lanka defeat New Zealand by 2-0, then Sri Lanka will leapfrog Australia. However, any other result than a 2-0 win for Sri Lanka over New Zealand will see Australia reach the WTC final even if they lost 4-0 to India.

A career-best 7/42 from Ravindra Jadeja helped India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin and Jadeja spun a web over the Aussie batters in the first session of Day 3, both combining to pick all 10 wickets, bowling Australia out for 113, and setting India a target of 115.

Although India lost KL Rahul early in the chase, skipper Rohit Sharma batted aggressively and positively, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes before getting run-out. Pujara, Kohli, Iyer, and KS Bharat took India over the line, as the hosts take a 2-0 series win and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

With the WTC final on the line as well as the Number 1 Test team ranking, there’s still a lot to play for for both the teams.
