[Video] Dhruv Jurel Hits Mark Wood With A Stunning Upper Cut Six On Debut

After the blitzkrieg debut of Sarfaraz Khan on Day 1, it was time for time for Dhruv Jurel to show his talent on Day 2 of the Rajkot Test against England.

The Agra-born youngster batted impressively and, with his knock of 46 runs, recorded the highest individual score by a wicket-keeper in this series so far, bettering the scores of both Ben Foakes and KS Bharat from the first two Tests.

Jurel showed class, talent, and temperament in scoring 46 runs off 104 balls as his partnership with R Ashwin, who scored 37 runs, helped India cross the 400 mark, something which at once looked bleak when India lost Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in the first half hour of play today.

Dhruv Jurel cracked 3 sixes in his innings and 2 fours. One of those sixes was to fast bowler – the fastest bowler in this series – Mark Wood. It was a sumptuous upper-cut or ramp shot from the 23-year-old that belied his age and experience as he took on the experienced England speedster.

Pounding his back, Wood bowled a short pitched delivery outside the off-stump. Jurel assessed the length quickly and played the upper cut while bending a little. He connected it superbly and the ball flew over the thirdman boundary for a six. Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar gushed in praise for Jurel in the commentary box.

Jurel got two reprieves – one from Ben Stokes and one from Ollie Pope as they dropped catches, but the youngster made his opportunity count. Apart from that six to Wood, he also smoked two maximums to leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, showcasing his ability to pick the variation of the leggie. He was involved in an important partnership of 77 (175) with R Ashwin.
