[Watch] James Anderson Taunted Ravindra Jadeja For Sword Celebration After Running Out Sarfaraz Khan

Ravindra Jadeja has four Test centuries and 20 half-centuries, and perhaps every time he has celebrated with his trademark sword celebration.

However, his latest milestone – a century in the third Test against England, no less at his home ground in Rajkot – was the least celebrated one – though he still did the sword celebration, there was not much of the usual enthusiasm – from the Saurashtra all-rounder because he had just run out Sarfaraz Khan when he was on 99.

Sarfaraz Khan, on debut, had blasted 62 runs in 66 balls and was going gung-ho. But Ravindra Jadeja got stuck in his 90s and was approaching his milestone over-cautiously. Jadeja, who already has a bad reputation for being involved in run-outs and more often it has resulted in his partner getting run-out, tapped a ball from James Anderson to Mark Wood at mid-on and took a few steps. Sarfaraz responded and started to run only for Jadeja to abort the non-existent single. Wood hit bulls-eye and Sarfaraz was run out on his debut innings.

On the very next ball, Jadeja took a single to deep backward square leg and reached his century, but there was no big celebration – he didn’t take his helmet out or raise his bat much – and only a mild sword-twirl for the crowd. He looked upset with himself for running out Sarfaraz Khan, and later he apologized on Instagram for it.

James Anderson, though, saw the funny side of it. After Jadeja completed his sword twirl, he gestured the same and taunted him. The Indian all-rounder listened to Anderson’s chirp and looked away from him, not willing to give any reaction.

In his post-day press conference, Sarfaraz gave a mature response when asked about the run-out. He said, “That it’s okay such things happen. Miscommunication happens, it’s just a part of the game. Run-outs happen in cricket. It’s completely normal.”

India will start Day 2 in Rajkot at the score of 326/5.
