[Video] 'Match Referee Was Checking My Bat': Harmanpreet Kaur After 95 (48) vs Gujarat

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Mumbai Indians women’s team, made a hilarious revelation that the match referee was jokingly checking her bat after her whirlwind knock of 95 runs in 48 balls against the Gujarat Giants.

Harmanpreet Kaur powered Mumbai Indians to the playoffs – sealing a spot in the top three in the five-team tournament – of the WPL 2024 season with her sensational innings of 95* runs in 48 balls in a tall run chase of 191 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

MI were 98/3 at one stage in the 14th over before the storm by Kaur hit Gujarat. Harmanpreet Kaur blasted 10 fours and 5 sixes to take her side home with one ball to spare, while Amelia Kerr scored 12* off 10 and mostly turned over the strike to her skipper. Kaur and Kerr added 93* runs in only 38 balls with the MI captain doing the powerlifting to solidify MI’s position at the top of the points table.

Vo referee mere peeche pade hain: Harmanpreet Kaur

After the match, Kaur spoke with broadcasters Jio Cinema and revealed this funny incident of the match referee GS Lakshmi comically checking her bat.

The MI captain said, “When we were practicing, I was using this bat (the one she played with), my match bat was different. But my grip was a bit loose with the latter. Then, I thought I should use my practice bat only.

“Arey vo referee mere peeche pade hain, bat check kar rahe hain, jaise pata nahi kya daala hai bat me! (The match referee is checking my bat, as if I’ve put something in it)” Harmanpreet laughed.

Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur is the third-leading run-scorer in the tournament right now with 235 runs, scored at an average of 78 and a strike rate of 147.

As they did last season, Mumbai Indians became the first team to reach the playoffs. Now their aim, in their remaining one game, would be to finish at the top of the points table to gain a direct entry in the final.
