Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting and DC team director Sourav Ganguly relived their rivalry from their playing days in the nets ahead of the IPL 2024 season.
The IPL 2024 season will get underway on Friday in Chennai. Delhi’s first match is on Saturday against Punjab Kings in Mohali.
DC head coach Ricky Ponting, who has been with the franchise since 2018, had a fun net session with Sourav Ganguly, who joined DC initially as an advisor in 2019 and then was promoted to the position of team director.
The Delhi Capitals social media handle uploaded a video of Ganguly giving throwdowns to Ponting in the nets. Ganguly gave some throwdown to which Ricky Ponting played classy backfoot punches. DC wrote “Reliving 90s” on the video. This video reminded fans of the intense rivalry between the two former international captains in the 90s and 2000s.

Delhi Capitals have received a boost in the form of Rishabh Pant, who has been cleared to play in the IPL 2024 as a keeper-batsman, though it has been learned that DC will initially play him as a captain and batsman only and he would start taking keeping workloads in the second half of the season.
Last year, in Pant’s absence, under David Warner, Delhi performed poorly as the players couldn’t step up collectively. DC finished 9th in the 10-team tournament last season.
Apart from Pant, Anrich Nortje is also fit and adds might to Delhi’s bowling.
Delhi have been rocked with two absentees. Harry Brook has pulled out due to personal reasons and Lungi Ngidi will miss the season due to an injury. Ricky Ponting roped in Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk as one replacement.
