Rinku Singh has stamped his place in the minds and hearts of the Indian fans. He also stamped his authority at St George’s Park in Gqeberha by smashing a six straight onto a media box glass during India’s 2nd T20I against South Africa. The young left-hander then apologized in a funny way after the game.
Even though India lost the rain-marred 2nd T20I in Gqeberha, the biggest positive for the Men In Blue was the brilliant knock from Rinku Singh.
While Rinku had an impressive start to his T20I career, fans wondered how he will perform when facing better bowling attacks like South Africa’s and on away from home. The 26-year-old KKR batter answered those questions with his bat in the 2nd T20I.
India were in trouble at 125/4 at Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket. But Rinku Singh took the side to a good total of 180 with his knock of 68* runs in 39 balls. He cracked 9 fours and 2 sixes in the process, one of those sixes landed straight on the media box glass, which left a big indentation, almost to breaking point, and it will need to be replaced.
After the match, Rinku Singh apologized for breaking the glass very sweetly.

The half-centuries from Rinku Singh and Suryakumar helped India post a total of 180. However, it didn’t prove to be enough. After another rain intervention, South Africa were given the target of 152 runs in 15 overs, which they chased down in 13.5 overs, courtesy of Reeza Hendricks‘ 49 off 27 balls followed by Aiden Markram’s 30 off 17 balls. Indian bowlers struggled with the lengths as they bowled amid dew.
Captain Suryakumar said: “At the halfway stage, I thought it was a par score but they batted beautifully in the first 5-6 overs and took the game away from us. It was the brand of cricket we were talking about, just go out and express ourselves. It was tough with the wet ball, but we would face similar situations in the future and it’s a good learning for us. Looking forward to the third T20I.”
