England’s Shoaib Bashir and India’s Sarfaraz Khan, both playing in their debut Test, series had a funny conversation in Hindi during day 2 of the Ranchi Test.

Shoaib Bashir gave a cheeky reply to Sarfaraz Khan when the Indian youngster tried to sledge him after Bashir had come out to bat in the first session on Saturday.

Batting at number 10, Bashir came in to bat after the fall of Ollie Robinson’s wicket. With Rohit Sharma employing two spinners in tandem, the Indian skipper instructed Sarfaraz Khan to stand at silly point, in case of a catching opportunity.

Sarfaraz, who has a reputation of riling up the opposition in domestic cricket, cheekily taunted Shoaib Bashir, saying “Isko to Hindi nahi aati hain (he doesn’t know Hindi).”

Bashir, who has Pakistani heritage, heard it and after taking his guard, replied to Sarafaraz, “Thodi thodi aati hain Hindi (I know little bit of Hindi).”

Both youngsters shared a laughter before Bashir faced his first ball of the match. This banter between Bashir and Sarfaraz was caught on the stump mic and now it has gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, England have taken a stronghold in the second Test courtesy of a four-wicket haul from Shoaib Bashir. The off-spinner took the wickets of Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rajat Patidar – that is four of India’s top five. Day 2 ended with the visitors in front as India slipped to 219/7, still trailing by 134 runs on a pitch that has low bounce and is playing tricks now.

While Jaiswal raised another half-century and crossed 600 runs for the series, Bashir got into the act at the other end to trouble the Indian batters, before eventually getting Jaiswal too. India will need a huge effort from Dhruv Jurel, who is batting on 30*, and the tail to come near England’s total of 353.
