The last time Zimbabwe won a Test match on foreign soil, MS Dhoni hadn’t made his debut, Virat Kohli was still studying in school, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis used to open the bowling for Pakistan, there only 2 formats of cricket Test and ODI and Tony Greig and Richie Benaud were the voice of cricket in the commentary box.
There is a Test match going on between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka (in Sri Lanka) and it is likely that Zimbabwe will pull off a victory and announce their return to international cricket.
In the last one and a half decades, Zimbabwe have won almost nothing and struggled to win the trust of their fans back. Match after match, series after series, they have only managed to lose games and get outplayed by the opposition.
During the ongoing Test match, there was one spectacular moment that caught everybody’s attention. Zimbabwe’s Tarisai Musakanda made a brilliant effort at point to prevent a backfoot shot from Asela Gunaratne piercing the infield. As he fell to the ground he flicked the ball up to Malcolm Waller, who gathered it one-handed and fired a one bounce-throw to keeper Regis Chakabva, who competed a simple run-out. And, unlucky Dilruwan Perera had to walk back to the pavilion.
This combined effort by Musakanda and Waller is one of the most spectacular run-outs we have ever seen. Watch it here:
