Murali Vijay is one of the best Test batsmen in India and also one of the most reliable opening batsmen in the world, in Test cricket. In the last couple of years, he has worked extremely hard on his game and establish himself and one of the most reliable batsmen for India in Test cricket.
But, what came as a big blow for India, Vijay has been ruled out of the 3-match Test series against Sri Lanka, and Shikhar Dhawan will replace him for the series, the BCCI confirmed through a media release.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Monday named Shikhar Dhawan as the replacement for injured Murali Vijay in the Test team, which is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series,” BCCI said through a media release.
Vijay has been facing some injury issues but Indian cricket fans were hopeful that he would remain fit after a big break and perform well at the top of the order.
“Vijay, who had suffered a wrist injury during Australia’s tour of India, has complained of pain in his right wrist, while playing a preparatory match. The BCCI medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program,” the release stated.
Vijay played with an inured in the grand home season 2016/17. After the first Test against Australia, Vijay missed the Bengaluru Test and then returned for the last two matches of the series. And immediately after the conclusion of the season, Vijay travelled to the United Kingdom for surgery on his injured wrist. Due to this, Vijay also missed the tenth season of the Indian Premier League.
