[Video] West Indies’ Kavem Hodge Funnily Plays A Nathan Lyon Delivery With His Abdomen Guard

In a hilarious incident on Day 3 of the Australia vs West Indies Test at the Gabba, West Indies batter Kavem Hodge deflected a delivery from Nathan Lyon with his abdomen guard!

In Lyon’s sixth over of West Indies second innings, the 34th of the innings, the off-spinner bowled a delivery from round the wicket angle on the leg-stump which straightened on pitching.

Kavem Hodge got into a confused state as to play the ball or leave it. He eventually decided to leave it, and shouldered arms, thinking it would turn past him down the legside. However, with the ball straightening, it hit him straight on his abdomen guard. Thank goodness for the abdomen guard, otherwise, it would have been a painful blow to the boneless structure of Kavem Hodge.

The commentators found it hilarious. One commentator said, “That’s an interesting way of deflecting a ball.”

West Indies set Australia a target of 216 runs

West Indies have set Australia a target of 216 runs. Given how the West Indies pacers were on fire in Australia’s first innings, when they had the hosts on ropes at 54/5, the visitors would be hoping to recreate the same kind of performance.

However, West Indies would be disappointed with themselves for their batting show in the second innings. They managed 193 runs. West Indies were 123/3 at one stage and would have set eyes on a lead of 250. But Australia stormed back in the game, chipping away with regular wickets. Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon both picked three wickets each. For the West Indies, no batter reached a half-century in their second innings.
