Former India women’s captain and legendary batter Mithali Raj schooled a cricket fan on Twitter about a “mindset” on ODI cricket, wherein the views of Raj and Kevin Pietersen differed.

This was in regard to her cricketing opinion which was in contrast with that of the stylish former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, when both were doing broadcasting duties in the India vs England warm-up match of the World Cup 2023 on Saturday in Guwahati.

Both Mithali Raj and Pietersen are working with Star Sports for the ongoing World Cup 2023 in India. India played their first warm-up match against England on Saturday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. The match was washed out after the toss had happened.

India captain Rohit Sharma had won the toss and elected to bat first. During the show after the toss and before the start of the match, both Mithali and Pietersen were asked what sort of target would India want to give to England batting first.

While Mithali said India should at least score 280, Pietersen, an endorser of the aggressive brand of cricket, said India shouldn’t settle for anything less than 350 against Jos Buttler’s side, which has deep batting.

A fan then quoted these two legendary batters on Twitter in his tweet, talking about their “ODI mindset”:

A fan with the Twitter handle “@captainshanky” tweeted: ‘ODI mindset in a sentence:

Mithali: “India would look to get 280”
Pietersen: “Nothing less than 350.”’

This tweet reached Mithali also. Close to 22 hours later the tweet was posted by the fan, Raj quoted it and said: ‘The only “mindset” reflected in this tweet is yours.’

Fans wondered why Mithali had focused on the word “mindset”. Many of her followers rallied behind her and gave support to her tweet.

Subsequently, the fan also explained that he was talking about the mindset of two different generations of batters that were Mithali and Pietersen.

Meanwhile, the India vs England warm-up match was washed out after the toss. India’s second warm-up game is against the Netherlands on October 3.
