Officiating a cricket match is never an easy task. You need to ensure that the players are behaving well, you need to watch for no-balls and LBWs as well as take decisions amidst all the noise that is there in the stadium. Umpires aren’t always the most popular people in the world because they are always under pressure.

However, with batsmen today becoming more and more aggressive, umpires have to watch out for their lives too. There have been times when umpires are given their own helmets so that they can protect themselves against hard balls coming their way. And that was exactly the case when Virat Kohli came on to bat in the one-off T20.

Umpire escapes:

Batting against Lasith Malinga, Kohli was in prime form and was hitting the ball extremely well. He got hold of a fuller one and hit it straight back to the direction that it came from. Umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge will count his lucky stars and his reflexes as he was able to get out of the way just in the nick of time.

The ball missed the umpire by just a few inches and he saw the funny side of it. Kohli did enquire if the umpire was fine and it was a light moment that could have gotten serious.

End of the day, all’s well that ends well and Kohli showed that he is once again the master of the chase even though he could not finish the match today. He will look to continue this form against the Australians later this month.
