Cricketing greats and good friends Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers met after a while at the Eden Gardens ahead of the India vs South Africa World Cup 2023 game in Kolkata on Sunday.
The match coincides with Virat Kohli’s 35th birthday and the Indian cricketing superstar got to meet one of his closest friends in AB de Villiers before the start of the IND vs SA encounter.
AB de Villiers is in India for broadcasting duties for the remainder of the World Cup 2023.
He and Virat Kohli shared a warm hug, embracing each other pleasingly. They had a brief chat and then Kohli went back to his warm-up session with the Indian team before the toss in Kolkata. Kohli and ABD played for many years together at RCB in the IPL and became close friends overtime.
The picture of Virat Kohli hugging AB de Villiers went viral on social media. And fans couldn’t keep calm. Some hailed the duo as two GOATs; some applauded their friendship and camaraderie.

Kohli turned 35 today. He’s had in incredible journey over the past 15 years in international cricket, going from a chubby, aggressive youngster to a modern day legend, vying for Sachin Tendulkar’s records.
In 288 ODI matches, Kohli has amassed 13525 runs at an average of 58. And while he’s a distance away from Tendulkar’s ODI runs tally of 18426 runs, Kohli is only one century behind Tendulkar’s 49 ODI centuries. Fans are hoping that not only Virat Kohli scores his 49th, but also reaches the 50th ODI ton landmark during the World Cup 2023.
