Kohli showcased why he is hailed as the chase-master as he slammed magnificent 95 runs off 104 balls, with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Even though it was a heartbreak for Virat Kohli and his fans, as he came agonizingly close to going level with Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries in ODI cricket, however, he missed the well-deserved century by just 5 runs when he was dismissed by Matt Henry.

During his stellar knock, Kohli played one of the most thrilling shots of the ongoing World Cup 2023. The shot came on the 47th over of India’s run-chase when Trent Boult delivered a short ball and Kohli just dismissed it out of his presence. The ball went parallel to the ground and traveled beyond the mid-wicket fence for a stunning ‘rocket’ six. It was a statement shot and an authoritative one as well.

Kohli’s beautiful shot left everyone awestruck. Even legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar, who was in the commentary box, ‘jumped out of his chair’ in excitement. His reaction was exactly like the million of fans as he was also left in awe of the hit unleashed by Kohli. Reacting to the shot, Gavaskar said:
‘What a shot. What a shot. We have seen Rohit Sharma play pull off the front foot, and now Kohli is showing that he can do that as well. This shot went like a rocket. That is massive,”
