Virat Kohli Finally Breaks His Silence On Breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI Hundred Record

Virat Kohli is, arguably, the best ODI batsman in world cricket. In the last 5 years, he has scored truckload of runs and broken many big records.

In the last match of the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka, Virat scored his 30th ODI hundred and equalled great Ricky Ponting’s record. In fact, he has, in a way, bettered it by scoring the same number of hundreds in 194 matches whereas Ricky Ponting took 375 matches. And, it’s a big difference.

In the post match press conference after the fifth ODI, Virat Kohli asked about his majestic achievement and also his thoughts on breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record, who is at the top of the list with 49 hundreds to his credit.

Virat gave utmost respect to his idol Sachin and said that his record is quite a bit away and it is going to take a hell of an effort. Kohli also said that he is not thinking about that.

“The great man (Sachin Tendulkar) is quite a bit away. That’s going to take a hell of an effort. Again, I am not thinking about that. It’s only about the team where even if I score a 90 not out and the team goes across the line, it’s good enough for me,” Virat Kohli said.

Virat also spoke on equalling Ricky Ponting’s record and said that it is a great honour for him to equal someone as great as Ponting.

“It’s an honour for me to equal someone like Ricky Ponting. That’s not something that you aim for but obviously he’s a great player and as batsmen we all respect what these legends have done.”

He concluded by saying that he only wants to perform to the best of his ability and contribute to Indian cricket.

“I look to perform as well as I can for the team. These things keep happening as you go along in your career. You don’t target these things, but those stats windows are hard to neglect because they pop up everywhere after you have achieved something.”
